LBS 707. Searching as Strategic Exploration

Searching as strategic exploration

There is no step by step process when you search. It is a journey exploring different resources. It is important to be consistent when you search. Don’t give up when you don’t find relevant information. Novice learners may search a limited set of resources, while experts may search more broadly to choose the most relevant information.
Activity
1.      Which interested parties would be interested in information about the effects of assisted suicide?
2.      On a piece of paper, brainstorm possible sources and select the best source that you think will be relevant to use.
3.      Lastly, write down keyword you have used that will help you with your search.
Knowledge Practice
1.      Identify interested parties, such as scholars, organisations, governments, and industries, who might produce information about a topic and then determine how to access that information.
2.      Utilize divergent (e.g., brainstorming) and convergent (e.g., selecting the best source) thinking when searching.
3.      Use different types of searching language (e.g., controlled vocabulary, keywords, natural language) appropriately.
